Life Magazine has a Good Sense of Humor.

Life also has great photographs, too, over many different things, but what I've noticed recently is that they have a decent collection of fashion related images. For example, they have an online photo collection of Trends from the 90s...because the 90s are the new 80s...for those of us 20-somethings who wish to feel old and slightly nostalgic, we can just look at the theme party census taken this year from major universities: 1990s theme parties have gone up in popularity...please excuse me while I go check for new gray hairs (yes I said new...don't get me started.)

Anyways, before I get going on another rant, what I really wanted to write about was this beauty: Young Women Dressed Appropriately. It is a collection of photos starting with good ol' Flo Nightengale (can we discuss how fabulous her name is?) going to the 1960s. Witty titles are included with fantastic photographs of women doing assorted activities such as:

Dressed for Household Chores in 1847

Dressed for Mirror-Gazing in 1858

Dressed for Being Fabulously Wealthy in 1911 (this is a personal favorite)

Dress for Riding a Firecracker at the Beach in 1950 (I know...right?)

Anyways, there are a lot of pictures if you follow the link. Enjoy!

  1. That firecracker picture is the best thing I've seen all week. I can't stop laughing. :D

  2. I know! It's one of my favorites!

  3. Ah...I knew I was supposed to spend my life being fabulously wealthy!
